How long will a treatment session normally last?
At the first visit, the duration of a treatment session is longer than at subsequent visits, approximately thirty minutes or more. This is because the chiropractor would have to take a full history and conduct an examination before deciding on the management plan. At this visit, the necessity of an X-ray would be discussed. The patient would be treated the same day.

What should I wear to the clinic?
It would be best to be attired in clothing that is easily removed as patient gowns are provided here. If the lower half of the body needs to be treated, trousers that can be easily rolled up should be worn. If not, a gown would be provided.

How would you describe the treatment given by a chiropractor?
A chiropractor uses his bare hands to administer treatment, usually by way of high velocity short amplitude thrusts, on specific segments of the body in order to restore normal motion and function to a joint not moving as it should. The adjustment should not cause any pain at all.
However, a chiropractor does not merely adjust. Chiropractors are also trained to move a joint by mobilizing it, loosen fascia and connective tissue using deep massage and myofascial techniques. This might sometimes be accompanied by a mild soreness over the next 48 hours.
After motion is restored, chiropractors can prescribe specific exercises and stretches to the patient. These can be done at home after the patient has been taught them. A patient requiring more guidance would perform the exercises under the supervision of the chiropractor in the clinic. If the patient requires intensive rehabilitation, the chiropractor might refer him to an appropriate specialist like a physiotherapist or other therapist trained in exercise therapy.
Chiropractors are also trained to use ultrasound, interferential, heat and cold modalities commonly used by physiotherapists.

How are you different to traditional Chinese sinseh?
The standard of training might vary greatly from one practitioner to the next. Obviously, the philosophy is different and adjustment techniques also vary. Some Chinese sinseh have not been formally trained in manipulative therapy.

For how long would I expect to be in the care of a chiropractor?
That depends on the individual patient's condition. Most chiropractors would not discharge a patient from care unless the patient is not suited for chiropractic care, or if the patient is not expected to receive any further benefit from treatment. Should they not be suitable for chiropractic care, they would be referred for treatment by other health care professionals, including medical doctors, nutritionists or podiatrists.
Some patients who suffer from chronic pain are dependant on their chiropractor for long term maintenance care to reduce the aches and pains that commonly accompany their complaint, or example, patients who suffer from fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue. Some geriatric patients who suffer from degenerative conditions like degenerative joint disease of the hip find that they benefit from regular chiropractic care.

Will the physical size of my chiropractor affect the quality of the manipulative therapy I will receive?
The chiropractor at Integrative Chiropractic Pte Ltd is female and petite. Our chiropractor uses manipulative techniques which work for them. It is the skill rather than the size of the chiropractor that matters.

Is chiropractic care suitable for infants and children?
A child who is irritable and cries excessively for no apparent cause could be suffering from musculoskeletal discomfort. Children with feeding difficulties (bottle/ breastfeeding) or who have difficulties lying on their backs/ back of the head could well have restrictions in their cervical spine.
Chiropractic technique used on infants consists of the application of light finger pressure on the vertebral segments affected. Once a release is obtained, contact on the involved segment is removed.
Chiropractors are trained and qualified as primary healthcare practitioners and are competent to recognize medical conditions which are not suitable for chiropractic care. Some parents may, however, prefer to consult their paediatricians beforehand to rule out infection and other pathological conditions.
